451 Brief: America’s Coffee Party

Amid the cries of the masses, the rampant bipartisan anger, and the more hard-line approach of the Tea Party there rings a single, clear, peaceful call for sanity. This call can be heard from the ranks of the newly established Coffee Party.
After reading the first sentence of this rising, increasingly bipartisan group, one can truly understand why the activism of the people is so vital to American political process:
“The Coffee Party Movement gives voice to Americans who want to see cooperation in government.” (CoffeePartyUSA.com)
The key word emphasized in this statement is “cooperation.” Leaders and members of this new group are stressing cooperation, discourse, and bipartisan grassroots work to obtain benign outcomes in the upcoming elections.
Their goal through this cooperation amongst numerous Americans of all different races, walks of life, and political views? To vote in representatives to government positions who will listen to the people and act in their best interests.
Due to their more subtle motivations, they have not received as much press as the far more blatant Tea Party activists, but they have quietly risen to over 180,000 members and over 1,000 Coffee Parties across 48 states.
April 17-24th is the Campus Coffee Week, in which they are encouraging college students across the nation to start their own campus Coffee Parties.
Throughout all their cooperative efforts, their website sums up best what they are seeking, as all Americans should be:
“We want a society in which democracy is treated as sacrosanct and ordinary citizens participate out of a sense of civic duty, civic pride, and a desire to contribute to society.”
