The sheer finality of it all,
Creates the most essential beginning.
When I thought I’d never find warmth again,
When our bodies became used to cocoon-like wraps,
And the earth seemed to be giving its last gasps…
A simple ray shone through the mist,
Slicing through the snow as though it were scissors through paper.
Then another, larger ray-
And the freezing, dangerous [...]

Here is Hell. A game of hunter,
through which grows an echo
as if the walls are closing in,
pushing breath closer to itself.
A chase, in which muscles freeze
and a wolf is perpetually jumping
toward open eyes, jaws stretched,
sharp canines dripping.
Into open pours seeps
Tranquilized pastels, narcotic
sedative. Then synthetic gloss,
a nauseating sparkle on the world.
Shine is all there ever was.
